Match Result Keelby 165-8 Match Report The inspection of the pitch before the game confirmed most views that it would not be easy for the batsmen. Brigg won the toss and immediately elected to put Keelby into bat. Young Briggs and Sharp started well, but Ashley Briggs was trapped LBW and then Dan Bevis after early promise was surprisingly bowled. Two quick wickets followed including that of Sharp for 36 meant that Keelby were 70 for 4. Bruce Roberts and Renney put us back on course but the run rate inevitably slowed as we tried to halt the flow of wickets. Keelby finished the innings on 165 for 8, with Renney unbeaten on 45. Bruce Roberts then bowled throughout the Brigg innings ending with figures of 20 overs for 53 runs taking 1 wicket. It was only when Jim Cowie bowled from the other end, that it seemed possible for a Keelby win. Jim's 4 wicket haul made the game interesting sadly though his last over proved costly as he was hit for 2 lofty 6s. The game ended in the 42nd over with Brigg on 169 for 6. Though catches were dropped, it was probably the batting that cost us the game. If we scored say 180 then a win would have been well within our grasp. Champagne moment - None to speak of though one had to feel sorry for Luke Roberts who was run out when Tony Renney hit a straight drive which the Brigg bowler luckily diverted onto the stumps. Poor Luke had not faced a ball.
