10th July Vs Market Rasen Away

We won the toss and Keelby lost no time in choosing to bat. In retrospect, it was a decision that shaped the course of the game, but at the time, was one that either skipper would have made. Bruce Roberts replaced Sharp at the top of the order with Tony Renney his partner. Bruce was greeted with an opening ball, just short of a length, that looped over his head and it soon became apparent that batting was not going to be easy, though Bruce bludgeoned anything that deviated off the stumps. Tony Renney struggled and prodded a ball to be caught at short cover and then Dan Bevis was bowled. In form Dan Mawer then edged behind after a promising start and then followed a flurry of batsmen until Mark Wade hit 11. Bruce Robert's 24 was to be the only other score in double-figures. It's hard to be critical of the batting when the pitch offered the bowlers so much movement in terms of bounce and swing though credit should be given to the Rasen bowlers for taking full advantage. As is so often the case in the second innings, whilst the demons in the pitch were still present, they were nowhere near as pronounced. The Rasen openers, Salmon and Nash set about knocking off the runs with, seemingly, little difficulty until the former retired hurt with a pulled groin. It was left to Rasen's Limmer (17*) to put Keelby 2's out of their misery with Rasen's Nash top scoring on 28. Keelby's bowlers gave some hope but any realistic chance of winning had evaporated by 2pm! | ||||||||
